I was preparing to comment on how triplet teenage girls sounds like a terrifying handful (especially when they become interested in boys/boys become interested in them. I'm single and without kids and I can still imagine myself going into "overprotective dad mode" with a dating age daughter), but reading your posts over on Jez it sounds like you've got some excellent, intelligent kids. Clearly they take after their parents. Well done, sir.

Dusty, you have no idea how hard the dating part is. I get so mad at myself when I hear double-standards start to come out of my mouth with regards to the girls, dating and what we allowed the boy to do at the same age.

I think it all comes from knowing what a horny, conniving teenager I was and projecting that on every poor, unsuspecting kid that shows up with the AUDACITY to date one of my "angels" because "I JUST KNOW" he's got date rape on the menu.

I've been learning to "let it go" and trust the girls; to trust that they have been paying attention to how we've been raising them over the last 17 years. It is super hard and, as conflicted as I can be, I am finding peace in the stage of child rearing after years and years of dreading this age and what it meant.

Yep. Pretty much this. I myself wasn't a "horny conniving teenager" (didn't date until 17, virgin until 19), but between listening to the talk of other guys and being the "guy friend" of a fair number of girls (way too many of whom have fallen prey to the very worst of our gender and what "we" are capable of) being a "scary shotgun dad" doesn't sound all that crazy.

If I ever have a daughter expect me to look you up for advice on accepting thing and not setting up bear traps outside her bedroom window when the teenage years approach.

True enough, you get more of a mixed bag on the front page, just you you do here on Jalopnik. I tend to spend relatively little time on the Jalopnik FP as well, for similar reasons.
